> MASTERTON.

A change in the weather occurred on Sunday when (ho lcmp?raluro fell considerably. A westerly wind was followed by a downpour of rain. J.t has now clearcd itgain, however, and harvesting operations which arc in full swmg, will not be interfered with to any great extent. Mr. F. E. Nottage, Government Orchard Instructor, is at present: 011 a Departmental visit to Mastertou. An inquest 011 tho body of Mr. Alexander Cameron, who was found in a dying condition on the road at Holmwood on Sunday, was held yesterday morniug before-Mr'. Henry Bennett, .T.P., actingcoroner. After evidence a verdict was returned of death from injuries sustained through falling from a horse. It is expected that the skin-curing plant at the Waingawa meat works will be ready, for use in the course of a fortnight. The official opening of the works will take place at' the end of the present month. The Prime -Minister , an d the Hoii. T. Mackenzie have been invited to be present.

' FEILDING.

A wedding of local interest took place at Auckland yesterday when W. the well-known jockey, who has resided, in Peilding for tho last six years, was mamed to Miss Margaret Kelly, eldest daughter of the late Mr. J. -Kelly, at the Auckland Roman Catholic Cathedral. Two sisters of the bride attended her as bridesmaids. Mr. H. Hayr, of Auckland, was best man, and Mr. F. lvelly gavo tho bride away.

At the quarterly circuit meeting of the local' Methodist Church held last the balance-sheet and report submitted by the stewards disclosed a satisfactory state of affairs. There bad been a falling away of attendance, but the finances compare favourably with the figures other-years. Mr. Harding v;as elccted to represent tho church at conference. Taking advantage of the fact that num: bers of swimmers were on a visit here, local swimming men arranged a match, for which there were twelve starters. A valuable trophy was given, the winner being A. laing. \\> Newman, of Dunedin, was second, # and K. Tait, of PalmcTston North, third. 4
