DIMINISHED ENTRIES. , (By Telegraph.—Spccial CorreGDondcnt.l Cliristchurch, January 9. ' The annual tournament of the New Zealand Bowling. Association opens in Cliristchurch on Monday next. Entries close to-morrow at 7.30 p.m., but those arriving .by late mails will be. accepted.. The first draw for the rinks competition will probably take place ou Wednesday- evening. It is anticipated that about sixty rinks' will entor, and that most of the rinks form doubles for the doubles competition. The entry is small this year, several circumstances militating against' a large number of visiting bowlers coming to Cliristchurch. The North Island tournament, 'which opened to-day, drew nearly all the Wolliugtonians, who used to make for the Cliristchurch event, and, up to the present, only one rink, skipped by Bary (Victoria Club), lias entered from the North Island. The southern Christmas tournaments held in Dunedinand Invercargill may be responsible for the comparatively pcor pntry of rinks irom Otago. Thero is, liowever, time for further entries to come to hand, and possibly the completed list will show an improvement. The rinks entered so far will be skipped by P. 1?.
