Regarding the suits being brought by tho United States Government with the object of securing the dissolution of the Atlantic Shipping Conference under the terms of tho Sherman Anti-Trust Lew, Canadian shipping companies declare that they will not be affected by the United States aotion. They hold the view that the proceedings' are rather in tho nature of an equity suit, with the object of testing the Government's jurisdiction. The United States Government's New York Attorney-General denies that this is the case, TOBACCO TRUST. ' (Rec. January 8, 5.5 p.m.) New York, January 7. Tho Supreme Court of the United States has commenced hearing the appeal in the Government's suit for the dissolution of the Tobacco Trust with its subsidiary companies. Proceedings were begun in 1907, alleging tho existence of the unlawful combination.
