CHEAPER CABLE RATES

CANADIAN MINISTER'S VIEWS. Br Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. Ottawa, January 6. The Canadian Posl-raaster General, Mr. Letnieux, who attended the opening of the South African Parliament, has returned. He hoped tho Imperial Conference would deal with the matter in concrete form. In Canada much of the news published was coloured; it came through American channels, because American dispatches were obtained cheaply. He was afraid a State-owned cable would meet with formidable opposition from vested interests.
