AIR RIFLES FOR CADETS. . .Sinco the abolition of tho 1 Wesley Richards • .303 range 'rifle —sighted •up to 1000 yai'ds—for cadet , target : practice, arid the substitution therefor <if tho'.22 miniature riflo.for target sh;>oting, on miniature rifle ranges, grants in aid of the construction of these ranges being paid by tho Junior Cadet Department by way of subsidy, it has been found that in those schools'where, either from lack of funds or 011 account of the unsuitability of tho ground, tho provision of miniature rillo ranges is impracticable, tlio B.S.A. air-rifle, with the Hazard patent target, is a very excellent substitute, and arrangements have been mado by tho Department for tho supply, of these to such schools as may desiro to purchase ; this equipment. Tho Hazard targot , with two air rifles, costs £7 10s. only, and, in the case of small schools, where there is only a small dotachment of cadets established, should be most useful and economical. It is- also intended, before making any further issue of tho model rifles which aro, used for instruction in- riflo manual exercises, to equip them with a device consisting of a bolt action similar to the bolt of the service rifle so that drill in loading and unloading may be given. This device replaces tho present hammer action, which is only useful for snapping blank caps.
