OVERLAND TO INDIA.
THE NEW PERSISN RAILWAY. An influential group of Russian financiers and public men aro promoting an international company for tho construction of a railway from the Caucasus to Baluchistan, traversing Persia. They are satisfied that duo examination of the commercial, political, and geographical factors will secure the adoption of this, tho shortest cut to India. By the proposed route the journey from London to Bombay might easily be accomplished within the weejr. The new railway, starting from Baku, would skirt the Caspian Sea to the Persian frontier, and thence proceed through Kcsht, Teheran, and Kirman.to the of Baluchistan and Nusliki. The sections within Rus-si-in,and British territory ltould he under'the exclusive control of the respective countries. The whole length o? Hie Persian trunk line would be 1100 miles and the cost is estimated at fifteen millions sterling. Tho distance from London ?o Bombay through Alexaridrovo. Rostoff, and Baku is-.fiTOO miles, and the trip of seven days would cost 20 per cent less than the Brim'isi route, which retiuiris twelve and a half days, The , Ba<rdad route would require about twelve days. Commercially tho new scheme would not only give rapid transit between London and Bombay, but would greatly encourage Persian commerce.
