In addition to tho appointments, announced yesterday, of Lieutenant Stuart Robinson (of the Peto:ie Navals) to an ndiutantship on the permanent, staff, the following officers and non-commissioned officers have been notified to procecd to the Staff camp at Featherston nest week, for their probationary coursa of training in the duties of their positions as adjutants and staff sergeantinstructors:— Adjutants-.— Captain G. (Active List, unattached). Staff Instructors :— Lieutenant. O'Sullivan, Blenheim. Sergeant N : A. Smeal, Timaru. Corporal Webb, Christchurch. WELLINGTON RIFLE BATTALION. JUNIOR MAJOR APPOINTED.
Captain C. Harcourt Turner, officer commanding the College Rifles, has been appointed junior major on the staff of the First Wellington Eifle Battalion. Under the new establishments for the organisation of the Territorial Force, each infantry battalion must havo two majors on its staff, and the appointment of junior major has therefore been conferred upon Captain Turner, whoso seniority for promotion has been determined by' examination, he being the senior company commander- to qualify by examination for the rank of major. Captain Turner has seen practically nineteen years' service in the volunteer force. He has served in tho Canterbury Yeomanry Cavalry, the Christchurch College Rifles, and latterly for the last thirteen years in the Wellington College Rifles. He also. held, the appointment of Assistant Quartermaster-Gen-eral for the Wellington Military District for six or seven years, up to'the time when that office-was done away with, and for tho last ten years has been a member of the Executive Council of tho Dominion Rifle Association
It is understood that the senior subal,tcrn of , Captain Turner's late company (Lieutenant J. nutcben) 'will be promoted to the captaincy of tlio corps.
THE FEATHERSTON CAMP.' : His Excellency the Governor has granted permission to Captain Hamilton, ono of his aides, to act as adjutant at the Staff Camp at Feathcrston. A detachment from the Permanent Force has gone to tho camp site to prepare the lines. Major J. G. Hughes, D.5.0., who is to act as Assistant Commandant of the Camp, will proceed to Feathcrston today. It is notified for the information of those concerned, that mess- uniform will not be insisted upon at dinner; officers may appear at niejs in blue.
THE COMMANDANT'S MOVEMENTS. Major-General A. F. Godley, C.8., Commandant of the New Zealand Forces,' will pay an o.ilicial visit toAuckland next week, leaving Wellington 011 January. 12. lie will be accompanied by his staif-ofljeer (Captain D. C. .Spencur-Kmith), and Lieutenant-Colonel J. T. Burnett-Stuart, (Director of Military Operations), and will be absent for about a week. On his return to Wellington, tho Commandant will attend tho service trek, which is to bo carried out by ttio D Battery at tho conclusion of their annual training camp.
