DETERMINED SUICIDE. ; (By Telegraph.—Special Corresnondent.l . Falmcrston, January 5. : A somewhat determined case of suicido took nlace aixnit seven o'clock this morning,'when a man named John Dickson, 35 vears of age, drowned himself ■ in , the Manawatu River at a spot known 5 as Poplar Flat, near Moutoa. Dickson was seen about an hour before the occurrence, and. his body'was subsequently recovered from tho river. It was found that both' hands and legs' were tied, and deceased must have-' done this, and then thrown himself into the water. His behaviour on -the night 'previous is stated to have been somewhat strange. He had only a short time previously left Palmerstou to take up employment at the Moutoa flaxinill. '
A carpenter named W. Seiferts, employed in assisting to remove the .remains of the Union Bank of Australia (recently destroyed by fire), had two of his fingers very badly-crushed yesterday, and they may have to be amputated. • -
A girl was'arrested to-day on a charge of theft ol' a bicycle, and will be brought before the Court tomorrow. 1 '
