A SMASH ON THE ROAD.' i VFroru Our 'Own Correspondent.) At 0.30 yesterday morning, Mr. and .' Mrs. Morriss, of I'etone, whilst return- 11 irig from Wellington in a trap, were run into by a motor-car on the Hutt .Road, about one mile south of Petone.- Mrs. • Morriss, escaped with a severe shaking, bnt Mr. Morriss recdved an injured shoulder, a cur on tho heo.d, and bruises. The occupants of the ear were uninjured. The trap was badly broken, , and the motor-car was a complete wreck. The : horse, save for a few scratches, jvas' uninjured.
Last evening another of Mr. J; W. Reade's •' open-air concerts was given in . '• ■his gardens at Lower Hutt. There was a fair attsndance. A small charge was made for the purpose of supplementing the funds of the Wellington Salvation Army Children's Home. ■ , . The monthly meeting of the Lower , , Hutt Fire Brigadi-! was held last even- i ing, Captain Slinn presiding. The officers - reported that the brigade had been. > cali;d out once s-ince ■ last _ meeting to ' suppress an outbreak at Alicetown. -It was resolved to vote the sum of 10s. Gd. to the Lucas relief fund. Captain Slinn. ' presented Fireman Strand with a three years' service certificate. . The secretary (Mr. H. Baldwin) announced that, he was in receipt of J!4 2s. 6d., this sum being the proceeds of a concert given iv Mr. J. \\'. Rrade in aid of .thebrisade's uniform'fund. 'A team of five - men (to be selected) will be sent to'-Lovin-to compete'at the'local fire brigade's, sports meeting on Anniversary Day. 'l
