SAVED BY A DUKE'S SON.
Lord Georgo Wellesley, fourth Eon of the Duke of Wellington, has performed an act of remarkable gallantry at Putney, by ' rescuing a young woman named Haviland, who, it is alleged, had thrown herself.into tho river and was in immin- . eht danger of being drowned. Lord George' Wellesley and Lord Claud M. Hamilton were walking in High Street, Putney, when they heard shouting on the bridge over the Thames. They ran to the spot, and as soon as Lord ' George realised that a girl was in the water he threw off his overcoat and dived into the river sixty feet below. When heswam out to her in the middle of the river the girl struggled frantically, and ndded to tho difficulty of getting her to shore. When ho reached the bank with the young woman the polico requested lord George to give his namo and address, but he declined, remarking that he wished to change his clothes. It was not until they insisted that he revealed his identity.
