Australian team, in. its first innings, had made 318, and South Africa had 352, on. the score-sheets for. the loss of five, wickets (Faulkner, riot out, 188; Snooke, not out, 18). Thero was an attendance to-day of fourteen thousand. A Distinguished Coterie. Faulkner's innings was: followed with intense interest. Ho and Snooke compiled 'JO.' Faulkner had scored 204, thereby joining three others who exceeded 200 in Test' match cricket—Murdoch, Gregory, and Foster—when he was caught' in the, slips by Armstrong. Faulkner, who l received' an ovation, : had' batted for .315 minutes.- -He hit 26 fourers; his rate of. scoring being faster than/Foster's phenomenal innings in the 1903 Test at Sydney./ Snooke, who had been comparatively a failure so far, justified aU-'the-gdod things said concerning him by' his fine innings.
