' Sir George Farrar, Kt., D.S.O. Sir George Farrar is chairman of the East Rand Proprietary Mines. He is 51 years of age., During' the war he served as a major, on the staff of the Colonial Division. He has been a member of the Transvaal Colony Legislative Assembly,' in .which he was for. .some time Leader of the Opposition. A recent writer describes ■him as representing an enlightened capitalist interest. ."Sir George Farrar," he wrote, "is a type of the somewhat inarticulate hero whom. Carlyle professed to admire. Without the.social, graces he has won for himself ; the Solid respect of both parties." . ' K.C.M.G. : Sir James Percy Fitzpatriok, Kt. .To Sir Porcy Eitzpatrick belongs the honour of defeating General Botha in the election at Pretoria. Ho was born in South Africa fifty-eight years ago, and after accompanying the Rahdoph Churchill expedition through Mashonaland in 1891 joined the mining firm of H. Eckstein and Company in 1892, becoming a partner in 1898, and retiring in 1907. His book "The ' Transvaal from Within" received much attention both in South Africa and Great Britain. Though never likely to be ,a great force in Parliament, he has been described as South Africa's supremo electioneer. The Hon.- Thomas William Smartt. Dr.' Smartt has been a well-known figure in Cape politics for years past, and received his first portfolio, in. 1898, when he Was appointed Colonial Secretary in the Sprigg Ministry.. .He is a Progressive in politics. Mr. Edgar Harris Walton. Prior to being elected-to tho Union Parliament,' in which he now sits, Mr. Walton, ; was' Treasurer of Capo Colony from 1904 onwards. Ho went .to':South Africa in 1879, and took up journalism, becoming editor and proprietor of tho "Eastern Province Herald," of Port Elizabeth. - Mr. E. P. Solomon.. ~ Mr. Solomon is a-member of the South African Senate. '"'..■; . \'-"Mr. Nicholas, Ludwick de Waal.
