PETONE BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The Mayor (Mr. J. W.-M'Ewan) andCouncillors Short, Harding, Southgate, Piper, Jones, Trueman, Brocklebank, Young, and List attended a special meeting of the Petone Borough Council on Thursday evening. The special business was to consider a proposal to raise a loan of- ,£26,200 for repaying the following existing loans:— Street improvement loan, ,£7000; gasworks loan No. 2, £2000; gasworks loan No. 3, .£8000; drainage and street improvement loan, .£4000; Hutt bridge loan, ,£500; Hutt Road loan, ,£IOOO.. It is proposed that the security for the loan of ,£26,200 shall be a special annually recurring Tate of i 17-2-iths pf a penny in the Ji on the unimpioved value on the rateable property in the' borough, with a first charge on the municipal buildings. It is proposed that the loan shall be for a. period of ten years. A further proposal' is to raise a loan of .£12,000 for the purpose of repaying with the available trust- moneys (,£1500) the undernoted existing. loans; No. 1 gasworks-loan of ,£BSOO and No. i gasworks loan of .£BOOO, •the security, to be a first charge on the gasworks' and a special annually recurring rate of one farthing in the £.. The period of this loan is ten years. Both the proposals were carried. The managers of the Petone Technical School wrote asking the council for the a-nnual subsidy towards the funds of the school. The subsidy was granted. • Messrs. List, Jones, ' Trueman, and Southgate were reappointed representatives on the board of managers of. the Technical School for tho forthcoming year. <. The Town Clerk, Wellington,, asked the council to ascertain whether at any time representations had been made by the Petone Council. to the Government for the, construction of the present footway on tho.Hutt Road. A reply will-be sent. , . . Mr. J. H. Jackson, Ivorokbro, adviml the council that he could not 6ee his way clear to» lay another drain on his property. The letter was received. . Messrs. Kirk and Wilson, solicitors, forwarded statement of amount received from tho Rugby Union in pursuance of judgment of the Court, together with costs in connection with the matter, and enclosed balance of amount—.£2o ss. An amount of£s 6s. Td; was passed-for payment to tho Taita Cemetery trustees.
