Tho postal authorities advise that English and American mails, via Vancouver, are to arrive at Sydney on December 2fi' and will leave that port on December 28! arriving at Auckland on January 1, 101 l' The Wellington portion should reach here by the Main Trunk express on January 2. The undermentioned hours will bo observed at the Telegraph Office on Monday and Tuesday, December 26 and 27, and Monday, January 2:—December 2G (for Christinas Day), 9.30 a.m. to 10 a.m. and 7 p.m; to 8 p.m.; December' 27 (for Boxing Day), 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 : p.m. to midnight; January 2 (for Now Year's Day), B a.m. to 4 p.m. anil 7 p.m. to midnight. Tho midnight cable service will be as usual, and the Telephone Exchange will be open continuously. The Wellington South Post and Telegraph Office will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, instead of closing between 5 and 7 p.m. as usual. On Monday, December 2G, the office will bo open from 9 a.m. lo 9.30 a.m. only, and on Tuesday, December 27, from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. only. The Wairarapa, Napier, and New Ply. mouth trains which arrived last night in Wellington were, much bigger than usual and carried largo numbers of Christmas excursionists. The Native. Appellato Court held a sitting in Wellington yesterday. One of the cases heard affected the Native succession to a. deceased Native named Erinora Tungia, in regard to certain lands at Porirua. The question, at is whether or not according to Native custom the persons "who claimed to bo entitled to succeed to the property were the next of kin of the deceased or the next of kin of her husband-; N who some years ago had donated the land to her out of nroha. The New Zealand Federation of Pharmacists has decided to appoint Messrs. i\ Castle and L. Mlvcnzic, of Wellington, sind Mr. W. Parnham, of Auckland, as its representatives at the Pharmacists' Congress, to be held in Sydney cirly next month. One of the matters to be dealt with at the congress will be the need for general regulations with regard to .the Puro Foods and Drugs Act. It is anticipated that the decisions of the congress will be adopted by the various State Parliaments. Another important subject for discussion will be the necessity for- a now formulary. The object of a new formulary, is that a medical man prescribing a certain medicant will know that the patient can have it dispensed m any part of Australasia. Among other advantages there will be this one; That if a patient before consultations has taken any o'f the medicauts in the formulary before - consultation, the medical practitioner will, upon being acquainted with its name, know the exact nature of the medicine. Tho question-of reciprocity in regard to the basis of . admitting chemists from another State will also bo considered.

No claim will be entitled' to consideration- that shall not hare been received in due forin by ■the Secretary for Education, Wellington on or before January 27; 19X1. A subsidy will not be given to more than one library in the same town.. The whole of the subsidy must be expended without delay m the purchase of books for the library.
