HUTT COUNTY COUNCIL.

MONTHLY MEETING. The . monthly meeting of the Hutt I County Council, held yesterday; was attended by Councillors F. Lyncli (chairman), Welch, Gallaway, Edivards, Wakeham, and Whiteman. The inspector of works (Mr. J. W. Cudby) reported that the formation extension of Park's line, as far as Deep Creek, had been completed. A bridge north of the Upper Biutt should be renewed early in tho 'new year. The newbridge had been completed over . the | stream in Whiteman's Valley. The neces- 1 sary material for fencing the eastern side of tho Mangaroa, to Upper Hutt Boad had been obtained, and the work was now in progress. Pines had been obtaiued_ for lengthening the culvert near Mr. King's at Taita, with a view to Widening the road at that point. Portion of Fitzherbert Swamp Eoad, metalled soma months ago, had been blinded with rotten rock. Hand rails had been erected on tho bridge near Lynch's crossing. The formation of 12-chains of Tongariro Street and 81 ■ chains o£ Taylor's Eoad at Paraparaumu, was now in hand. The grant for metalling tho Paraparaumu to Beach Eoad was also completed, and the whole length from the junction with Amoha Street to the bridge at the beach was now metalled and a very good road. A number of complaints had been received from ratepayers who objected to the council's action in sometimes removing weeds, etc., from the water channel ou one side of the road to. the other: The inspector explained in Tegard to these complaints that sometimes, as when a high bluff bordered the road, the course objected to. was necessary. The council after a lengthy discussion decided to leave the. matter in the hands of its inspector of works. The Public Works Department authorised tho expenditure of a grant of ,£IOO on the road from Cottle to Normandale. Tenders are to be called for this Toad, which will connect the road from Belmont Station' right up to the road leading to Pahautanui. Other grants notified 'arc: — Pulcenia_ to Paekakariki {£ for .£), ,£100; Moonshine to Wninui, .£100; Pahautanui to Upper Hutt (£ for £), ,£300; Waikanao to Upper Hutt, .£250; Plimmerton-Pahautanui Eoad, ,£SB. It was agreed that applications be invited for the position of registrar pf dogs in each riding of the county, separately. Councillor Welch moved-that permanent road hands employed, by the council be given a week's holiday on full pay at Christmas time (from December 2i, 1910, to January 3, 1911). Councillor Galiaway moved as an amendment that the proposed extra days be not granted on full pay.. Three paid holidays, he contended, were sufficient. Tho "amendment was carried.
