CRICKET ASSOCIATION.
THE POSITION OF EAST'A., The Management : Committee of , th9'Wellington Cricket Association met last' evening, Mr. M. Luckie presiding. The action of the chairman in resigning the right of the association to the use of the Basin Reserve on' Saturday next in favour of the Wellington Amateur Athletic Club was confirmed. ' . It was agreed that the match, which was to have been played.at the Hutt on Saturday last, between the' represents tiro team and a "next best" eleven, should, be played on Saturday \next at the Wellington- College gTouna, L. Watson was granted permission fcs, play for the East District Club.- ' The inclusion .of Watson, before he had bfcen allocated to a district; in tho, East A eleven, on the occasion -of a match. against Hutt, was ■ discussed at some length. Mr. Laws-moved that-the match be declared a loss to East A, explaining .that he intended to withdraw the motioa. when , the matter had been discussed. Mr. Pearce seconded.. The chairman characterised . the dis« cussion as a useless waste .of time.. There had certainly been a breach of the rules,W,'' had been satisfactorily explained. The motion was lost on ,the voices. A . player named —' Porteous, late of Dunedin, was granted permission to play - for. the Central District Club.- • .The Druids'. Lodge was granted permis- ■ sion, on the.usual.terms, to play,on No*i 1 wicket at the Basin Reserve, on De~ cember.27,- in . a match against a, Dua» edin-team.
The Wednesday Association applied fop, the use of'.two wickets on the .Basin Reserve, on, Monday, and Tuesday, January j 23 and 24, to play visiting teams frtim'J Christohurch. , Permission was granted on' the usual-' terms. The Wednesday -Cricket Association' wrote protesting against the charge levied' for the use of a practice - wicket, and' stating that nets had' iiot been taken iai as arranged. ■ ■ It -was resolved .thai/'- no-' reduction, could be made' in tho charge for' thepractice' wicket. The'- complaint" to nets--was referred,to the Ground Committee. The North .Club notified that as they: had • commenced, practising :at Kelburne Park, they would not. in future." requira a practice ..wicket at the Basin Reserve. The disposal of the vacant wicket referred to the Ground Committee. Tho. Canterbury Cricket ■ Association submitted. the names of. Messrs. Hartj Cooper, and A. Wilson-as umpires in t.hft match against Wellington at Christ, ■church. - .It was' decided to-abide by flwi selection of the Canterbury Association^.
