DR. EMIL REICH. Br Tcleerapi—Press Association—Copyright London, December 12. The death is announced of Dr. Emil Reich, tho historian. Tho late Dr. Emil Reich was born at Eperjes, Hungary, in 1854, and was educated at Prague, Budapest, and Vienna University. After an extensive study of historical works in various libraries, he spent many years travelling in Europa and America. For about the last thirteen years lie has .resided in England, and lias frequently lectured at Oxford, Cambridge, and tho London universities. He was employed by tho Government in tho reparation of tho British case in the Venezuela boundary affair.'Among his works are "Success .Among Nations,' "Foundations of Modern Europe," "Imperialism," "Success in Life," "General History of Western Nations," "Plato aa Introduction to Modern Life," etc. A REMARKABLE WOMAN. 1 London, December 12. Mrs. M. French Sheldoji, F.R.G.S., the traveller, is dead. (Rec. December 14, 0.10 a.m.) London, December 13. The announcement that Mrs. Sheldon is dead has been contradicted. Mrs. M. French Sheldon was born iu the United States and was the third daughter .of .the lato Colonel t Joseph French, engineer and mathematician, and Dr. B. French, physician, philanthropist', and author. Mrs. Sheldon personally conducted an expedition to .Africa in IS9I, and travelled* on tho Congo in 1904. She altogether made three journeys around tho world, making historical and ethnological research. Besides doing much exploring work, Mrs. Sheldon wrots many books, and translated about fifty works of various kinds. She studied'medicine, was licensed as a doctor, owned, snd conducted tho publishing houst; of Saxon and Co. for many years, and was constantly engaged in editorial work. Tho French Government placed aiv edition de luxe of her translation of "Salaiiibo" in Flaubert s. tomb in Rouen. Mrs. Sheldon resided in London. She was English and Quaker on her father's side, and _; French and German on her mother's side.
