SUMMER MOUNTAINEERING.

Mountaineering in "Tongariro Park" is a growing summer attraction in the North Island and an announcement in this issue gives particulars. - The trip over the three mountains of the Tongariro National Park may be made in four clays, the tourists arriving on tho fourth evening at Waiouru. The cost for each of a walking party of four, carrying four days' provisions, etc., including guide fees,'provision and accommodation would he 12s. per day. If a coach is engaged to carry stores to Waihohonu hut from AViiiouru tho cost would ho £2 for the trio. Tho coach charge for passengers either way. is £1 each.

Of the three mountains RuapeJiu, with its several peaks, crater, ice-clilfs, warm lake,' glaciers, crevices, lateral and terminal moraines and snow-fields is undoubtedly the most beautiful; Ngaliruhoo, a single cone, with an enormous active crater, the most awe-in-spiring; and.Tongariro, with its numerous extinct and activo craters, and ancient and recent lava beds and hot springs, the most interesting. The 8J mile stago through' the beech forest from Rangataua to tho sub-alpine camp draws from tourists very genuine notes of admiration.
