_4_ _. ■ . . (Br Treble Clef.) ■ . Eugene Osslpoff. -M. Eugene Ossipoff, a noted Russian operatic baritone, will'appear'in conjunction with Mr. Lawrence Campbell hero at Christmas. Of M. Ossipoft the , Sydney "Bulletin" says:— "T!ie writer has listened to M. 'Ossipoff sing the \Eri Tu',' from Uu Balo in Mashera, and enjoyed it. Ossipolf is a remarkable singer, who believes, liko many famous composers, .that the ugly has its distinct place in music. In expressing rage, fear, and horror, he howls, roars, and sweeps like a tornado of sound, till, having exhausted the theme, ho suddenly drops into a whisper of idyllic softness. With his full-voiced baritone, his vigorous and unconventional methods, and his immonso high G's, he lias excited and enthused all song-lovers who have undertaken tho pilgrimage to the hall in Bathurst Street. He is dramatic with an intensity which doubtless comes from living in a country where every second mail's tail-pocket, is suspected of being iilled with dynamite. The Toreador's song, from Carmen, has possibly never been , sung with more fire and spirit than .he put into it at tho first concert—in fact, the writer with difficulty restrained himself from shouting to tho artist to let tho harassed animal "The man, Ossipoff'by name, is obviously a Russian scratched, for his appearance is very Calmuck. Quito sensational .was the applause given him on Saturday viiight. He distinctly caught on. Ho has a trick of raising his left eyebrow that ought to bring him in good money—if lie were properly boomed. He breaks all the rules of bel canto in n loud, derisive top note, but his efforts in plain and fancy devilment are most engaging. As a singer of devil songs he is a treat.".
On her return to London from her American and Canadian concert tour early in the coming year, Madame Mclba is announced to' sing the mad scene, from "Lucia cli Lammermoor" at tlfc fourth of tlio New Symphony Or- 1 cliostra's serins of concerts to ho held on February IJ. This will bo the first occasion of tho Australian prima donna's appearing at a symphony concert ill London. .
