RECIPROCITY WITH AUSTRALIA?
■A meeting of. the council of-the New Zealand Institute of - Journalists was held yesterday afternoon, the president (Mr. F. J. Earle) occupying the chair. -.-. The resignation of Mr. G. L.Gilmour treasurer, whohas left New Zealand for Sydney, was accepted with regret, and Mr. 0. W. Earle was appointed ■ actingtrea'surer. • ; ' , A draft circular was presented by the president outlining a scheme by which it. is hoped to establish a; periodical to. be known as "The New Zealand Journalist." It was decided to forward copies of the circular to 'journalists throughout New Zealand, and if the response warrants going- further with, the idea to call a general meeting of members of the institute to finally deal with tho matter. . • ' . ■ ■■■, . Whilst not' , approving of the Libel Act as passed into law. tho council endorsed the action of the president in previously expressing his general approval of the Bill as originally introduced. • '■.'•■.■■'■ ii Ifc ,., was decided to communicate with tho New South Wales Institute and endeavour to arrange for reciprocity between New South Wales and New Zealand in regard to employment and other matters of interest to. journalists.
