December 9, 10.45 p.m.) Capo Town, December 9. - The Australasian representatives at tho Union celebrations, Mr. Fisher, Priino Minister of Australia, and" Mr. Fowlds, Now Zealand Minister for Education, gave a farewell dinner prior to their, departure for home. Lord Gladstone, Governor-General, and Lady Gladstone, Lord do Villiers, Chief Justice, ' and a representative gathering were present. Lord Gladstone said ho had been only too glad to show tho visitors all the attention they deserved as distinguished representatives of their Do-, minions. Mr. Fisher, in proposing the toast "Tho Union of South Africa," referred to the triumph achieved in creating the union, and the interest which Australia and New Zealand, now being linked with South Africa, took in their national, questions. He returned thanks for the boundless'kindness shown to Mr. Fowlds and himself 'in South Africa. General Hertzog, Minister for Justice, in representing the Prime Minister, General Botha, declared that no toast was more welcome than that of "The Visitors." Ho dwelt on the need of tho unification of the two races in South Africa, and paid a tribute to the magnanimity of Great Britain in granting the Constitution.
