(Before Mr. W. G. Eiddell, S.M.) POLICE CASES. Alexander Jardine, found concealed in the stokehold of s.s. Manuka after the vessel had left Sydney for Wellington last week, appeared on the charge of having travelled without having paid his fare, and with intent to evade payment. He was fined £i, in default one month's imprisonment. His Worship ordered the line to be handed over to tho Union Steam Ship Company when recovered. Daniel Griffin, found drunk in Tinakori Road, while in charge of a horse and cart, incurred a 20s. penalty, or seven days in gaol. Bartholomew Mahoney, for drunkenness, was fined 205., or seven days' detention. George Williams, appearing on a charge of assaulting Bartholomew Mahoney, with intent to rob, pleaded "not guilty." SubInspector Norwood asked for a remand until December. 11, which was granted. One first offending inebriate, who- failed to appear, incurred a. fine of 205., or 21 hours' imprisonment. Another first offender was fined 55., with the usual alternative. ' . JUVENILE COURT; At tho Juvenile Court yesterday morning, before Mr. W. G. Eiddell, two lads were convicted of stealing a quantity of coal, valued at Is Gd., tho; property ot the State Coal Department. The bovs were discharged with a caution, the "coal to be returned. CIVIL COURT. CLAIM MILK. (Before Mr. W. G. Kiddeil, S.M.) Judgment was delivered yesterday in the case of Holt and Brotherton v. Reedv, in which plaintiffs claimed .£3l Is. Gd. for milk supplied during March, 190 G. Defendant entered a' counter claim for .£SO damages, his allegation being that plaintiffs ceased, to supply milk on April 1, 1906, without notifying that they had intended to do so, as in accordance with an alleged contract drawn up between the parties some months earlier. Judgment was given for plaintiff for the full amount claimed,, with costs. Defendant was non-suited on the counter-claim, no costs being allowed. Mr. Dix represented plaintiffs, and Mr. Kirkcaldie appeared for tho defendant. . CLAIM FOE WAGES. (Before Dr. M'Arthur, S.M.) Percy Laycock claimed .£25 10s., wages from H. J. Denton, butcher. His Worship gave judgment for defendant without costs. Air. E. J. : Fitzgibbon appeared for plaintiff and Mr. Cook for defendant. ANOTHER MILS CASE. Matilda Turner, Taita, lodged a claim of £U against Patrick Flynn, dairyman, Wellington, for milk supplied, Daniel Kavanagh, formerly a partner of Flyim's, being also cited as a defendant. Judgment was given ' against Flynn for the amount claimed, with costs and solicitor's fee, £2 2s. His Worship held that Kavanagh was not liable. Mr. Beere appeared for plaintiff, and Mr. S. J. Moran represented Kavanagh. AWARD CASES. The Inspector of Awards, * Mr. • A. E. Aldridge, proceeded against several employers for breaches of awards.A. Fortune, builder, for employing a journeyman carpenter at less than the minimum rate of wages, was fined £2. William Royd, for whonfMr. Cracroft Wilson appeared, admitted a breach of an award, by failing, to pay two.of his employees within fifteen minutes of their ceasing work on a Saturday afternoon. A fine of 20s. was imposed, with 10s. costs. For employing a non-unionist when unionists were available, W. Naismith incurred a penalty of 20s. The New Zealand Shipping Company admitted having engaged workers at other .than the appointed place.
