(By Tclcsraph.v-l'rcss Association.) « METHODISTS IN SESSION. VOLUNTEER CHAPLAIN QUESTIONS.' ■ Feilding, December 8. At the sitting of the Methodist Synod for the Wanganui district at Feildinj to-day, the Rev. W. B. Scott' was unanimously- recommended for ordination at the ensuing conference, the Revs. J Richards, W. A. Burley, and A. Allen were ■ recommended to passes in their year. The Rev. W. A. Watson was similarly recommended- for a pass, and to enter the training college. Mr. A. E. Bensley, a candidate for the ministry, was recommended for- training, and Mr. G Kirkwood to be received as Native minister. The Rev. G. Frost was-elected as representative to the conference, and the Rev. F. -W. Boys as substitute. The synod- resolved to defer consideration of the' establishment of a theological collego for one year.. It was resolved that the conference be requested -to bring under the notice of the Government theinadequate representation of the Methodist Church on the list. of chaplains of the volunteer force. .It was unanimously resolved to congratulate the Government upon giving the people the right to vote on national prohibition and also on the better protection of the Native raceagainst the sale of liquor. The synod further protested emphatically against tho retention of the three-fifths majority, and affirmed that.breweries within NoLicense areas should be subject to the peoples vote; also that this.period after which a successful national prohibition vote will operate be reduced from four to two years. The synod also resolved to strongly urge Methodists to endeavour . to carry No-License in'view of the remarkable diminution of crime which ha»taken place in districts where' No-License! has been tried. .-'■•. GOING IN FOR £6000 WORTH OF RADIUM. . . Palmerston, December 8. -The Hosjntal and Charitable "Aid Board yesterday resolved to promote a.movement to raise a fund of J63000 < for - procuring radium for the cure of cancer and skin diseases. The proposal was brought forward by Dr. Martin, who spoke-of' thV excellent results achieved by radium, and said that he and Drs. Peach and Putnam 1 were willing to carry out the treatment free of charge, the results being reported : to the board. If the ,£3OOO we're subscribe*;' this sum could be increased to ,£6OOO bi Government subsidy. This would purchase a considerable, bulk of radium. It was further decided to approach the Ho*' pital Day Committee and ask that this'; year's hospital day collection be devoted to the movement. , POISON BY MISTAKE. (By Telegraph—Press Association.)
