To judge from the general excellence of the exhibits at the Wellington Technical School, which' was thrown open to the public yesterday, the students this year have good," as the Aniei'i«ms say..-Every, department of the school is represented, at .tho annual exhibition' of the students', work, and as one strolls from classroom to classroom the impression'conveyed'by;: the quality of the work is th'at.the' school is, in an'unost'entatiousway, 'making'for tho general uplifting. of. the' arts , and crafts of the community;' In the'arts section tho work is' particularly ' "good, • reflecting ideals which-embrace accuracy in draughts■manshipi ;an aesthetic fastidiousness in the.:selection., and arrangement 'of sub-' jects, and an expression of: some bentimehtjn the particular study attempted. .The "life" class,perhaps, suggests these jdeas more than any other department of tho activity' of-ths, school; anatomy is given ample attention, to judge from- the exhibits, while the advanced studies reveal an influence which.seeks, to achieve a natural; co-relation, between the accuracy ■of . foray ■ nnd tho expression of BOtnething moro-than, a'mere "copy" of ' the model. ■ Some especially attractive ■work is shown .in. the'exhibits'-of the Btudents in the metal .work, jewellery, and enamelling classes, and -here again there is in.evidence a marked advance upon, the achievements:of the previous year.... Designing, lettering, writing, and illuminating are represented by some excellent exhibits, while tho 'elementary . classes, furnish evidence of a consistent regard for the importance of building npon a strong foundation. In the mechanical section there arc displayed instructive: examples of what tho students attending the carpentry,' plumbing, fitting, and turning,- steam, electrical, and laboratory classes have accomplished during .the year. .studies of the fair sex, j-'jdrcssmata'ng.'.-rand'.-cookery, ■ b»sM«« typewriting, bookkeeping, etc., call' for high approbation of the excellence of the work which has been- done.'
