The Railway Commissioners supplied 'returns'showing that the total compensation paid in connection with the railway disaster at Sunshine in 1908 amounted to £135,233. ' ■ The Sunshine,, or Draybrook, disaster occurred'on Easter Monday', April 21, 1908. Two trains, from Ballarat and Bendigo, respectively, both crowded with returning excursionists, came into collision at Braybrook Junction, eight miles from Melbourne. Two cars and a guard's van were "telescoped. Forty-two bodies wero recovered, and the number of tho injured amounted to 140. Tho Bendigo train, drawn by two heavy, engines, was following that from Ballarat, and crashed into the rear of it as it was leaving tho platform. Five carriages of the Ballarat train wore smashed. Tho ■Bendigo train was not seriously damaged. Among the killed was a young brido who had only been married on tho previous day. '
