"THE BRIXTON BuRGLARY." The "laughable concoction" of airy nonsense," yclept; "Tho Brixton Burglary," was presented by Mr. Fred Graham's company at tho Opera House last evening to a highly-amused audience, 10-night tho company will turn from burglars to girls, and will present the (Lira-ting comedy, entitled "The Girl of Osteud."
THEATRE ROYAL. Tho new vaudeville programme which was successfully inaugurated at the Iheati-o Royal on Monday evening was further strengthened last evening by. the appearance of Mr. Jack Martin, late of the risk Jubilee -'Singers, and a : basso of more than ordinary merit. "He 'is a distinct acquisition to the programme, and to judge from the cordiality of his reception last evening should enjoy a season of high popularity. The other members of the company contributing to the cur-, rent week's bill have already been fully noticed in the report of the initial presentation. Harry Sadler's inimitable comedy turn is the strongest feature of the lighter portion of the programme, while additional reference may also be made of the, dramatic episode, "A Father's Love," which is acted by Mr. Godfrey Hunsley and Miss Nellie Florence. Com--ing events at the theatre include "amateur trials"' on Friday night, when a special prize will bo given for the best imitation of Harry Sadler's singing of the original "What? . What? What?" On Monday evening next Mr. Nat Clifford and tho Anderson trio will make their reappearance. > HIS MAJESTY'S THEATRE. ' ■The seating capacitv of His Majesty's Theatre was heavily taxed last night, when the programme, exhibited for the first time, on Monday evening, was presented most successfully a second time. The Mohawk's Way," one of the most -popular of the dramatic items, vividly depicts an incident of life at a Canadian | settlement in the early part of the eighteenth century. "King ' Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table" and "Lost in the Sudan" dramatic pictures well screened. "Birding in the Faroe Islands" is one of the most interesting of the scenic films. The ascent of the rocky cliffs and the novel methed of catching the birds, bymeans of a net at the end of a long pole, are glimpses of an industry'- seldom appearing before the camera. A splendid educational subject is provided by a long picture of a sweetmakmg factory. Every stage of manufacture; from ,the-raw material to the finished product, can be closely followed. The comic element figures prominently in a number of films, the most laughable beinf ■, The Man to Beat Jack Johnson," and . Friscut Drinks Embrocation." The -same programme will bo shown to-night, and. a complete change will be made on Thursday night.
| .' THE KING'S THEATRE. A full house assembled last night at the King's Theatre to see the varied and interesting films which- the West's and Royal Picture Proprietary provided. Tonight the management will screen "The Death of President Lincoln." Wilkes Booth, a fanatic, vows, to kill the President at Ford's Theatre, Washington, which Mr. Lincoln is to attend. Booth effects,an entrance under a false name into Lincoln's box. Ho discharges his pistol, and crying "The South is Avenged, escapes into the open, wn'er'e an accomplice is waiting with two saddled horses. So well has. Booth taken his precautions that he has a good start before the witnesses of the deed can get out of the theatre. Booth escapes into .Maryland, but is forced to take refuge in a barn. . Scarcely able-.to support himself against the wall, lie makes a dogged resistance by firing through the tiny windows. Eventually the barn is set on fire, and Booth, 'turning to extinguish the flames, is .shot down; "Hunting Hippopotamus on tho Upper Nile," "Tunnv Fishing in- Sicily," "The Man' to Beat Jack Johnson," "Tontalini Wants Money,' "Mother's Wedding Gown," and other star items will also be shown. STAR pictures; .The new programme of the Star Pictures again drew, a crowded "house" last evening. The excellence of the scenic studies is a distinctive-feature of tho new bill. A trip on the Canadian Pacific Railway, and the. beauties of the Riviera have been admirably portrayed by tho kinematographer: The dramatic pictures are also worthy .of special' mention. ' A number of other good items, including the comic variety that provoke unrestrained laughter, are given. •VALDARES-GARRISONS ; ENTERTAINERS. ' This talented and well-known company of entertainers will commence. a 'short season of seven nights at the Opera House on Saturday, December 10. The company concluded a successful season at His Majesty's' Theatre, Auckland, where it is claimed that they established the reputation of. having presented one of the finest programmes of vaudeville ever witnessed in that centre. Amongst the performers are Mr Jules Garrison and his two Roman Maids, Reggiardo, the famous juggler .and .balancer, and! tho four Valdares, who are styled "the. world's greatest trick cyclists." Other attractions are combined in what is stated to bo a strone programme. ■ &
