CHAMOIS.
» : (By Telegraph— Press Association,) Ghrtstchurch, December G. 'A' welcome report has been received by tho Hon. T. Mackenzie, Minister for Agriculture, regarding tho progress of the chamois which were liberated in the south some time ago. Mr. P. Graham, guide, writes from Mount Cook Heruiitago as follows:— . , "When making on ascent of tho western spur of Mount Wakefield, a low peak on the southern range of Mount Cook, on November 28, I was pleased to sight four of tho chamois. I was fortunate iu being able to obtain a near view of them, and watched their movements for some time before being observed. Though they were four' does they were not all together, but in pairs, two being some 500 feet higher up tho mountain side than tho others. All of them were looking well and in splendid condition, and were apparently well acclimatised and satisfied with their new home."
