Mr., Mrs., and, Miss Howley, of Timarn, who have been travelling in, England, Ireland, and Scotland, and oii the Continent for the past, three years, left London, on. Mr. Henry C. Miller,, of Auckland, ■ eldest son of. Mr. -Henry Miller, was married in London on Tuesday of last week to Miss Elsie Raphael, only daughter; of Mr. and Mrs. A. Mr. Robt. Wilkinson, of Dnnedhi. and Iris wife and family, who arrived jn England in April, are now' residing at Hove for three months, having, placed the younger meriibers. of the family at school in this country. They will remain at Hove until they leave for New Zealand by the Malwa on December 16. Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Field, of Nelson, who are on a visit to the Old Country, have' altered their plans in resa'rd to spending the winter in linropp. In view ■of the outbreak of cholera in Mediterranean ports, they will sail to-day by the new Eotoruafor Cape.Town, where they will spend two or three months before-proceeding to New Zealand. ■
Admiral Sir William Kennedy, who leaves England very shortly for the Dominion to spend some .months on tour, is a keen sportsman with, rod and gun, and has to his credit several literary productions dealing with sporting . adventures. in the Pacific, sport and travel in' Newfoundland, and sport in South America.
Mr. S. Higman, of Sydenham, Christchurch, who came to England last May, intends returning by the Tnrnkina, which leaves London on November 2C. At the end of the month Mr. Higman will return to Cornwall to say good-bye to friends. During his stay here he has gained the diploma of tho National Fretworkers' Association.
Young New Zealanders have again clone well in the Annual Empire Essay Competition of the British and Foreign Bible Society, winning no .fewer than ten plaques made of Nelson copper; also three additional prizes. The subject was: "Arctic Explorers, and the Benefits Arising from their Discoveries,", with a map of the Northern Volar regions. The society again oilers for competition next year four plaques for New Zealand, and the subject is to be: "King Alfred the Great; His Character and'lnfluence, especially on English Naval History." -
Mr. William G. O'Callaghan, lato chief clerk of the Magistrate's Court, at Dunedin, and his youngest daughter, are staying at Eowlands Castle, Hants, with Admiral ■ O'Callaghan, Mr. O'Callaghan's brother, whom 'he had not seen since 1873. Mr. O'Callaghan \has come to England to revisit old scenes and renew old acquaintances after 27 years' absence, and he and his daughter, whose first visit to England this is, intend to sail again for the Dominion in February of next-year,' after visiting various beauty spots of England. ■ ■ ,'• . Mr. John Feldwicl;, of Invercargill,. is at 3- Cursitor Street, E.C. Mr. Chas. Moore, of Wellington, has gone to stay in Regent's Park Road. Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Raymond (Invercargill) are at Cherrywood Lodge, Wimbledon, S.W. " • ! Mr. E. H. Rogers, of Gore (New Zealand) called at the High Commissioner's office a few days ago. Mr. Francis L. Crosbic, late of Dunedin, has gone to Glasgow to enlarge his experience in engineering, and intends to spend a couple of years there before returning to the Dominion. He spent several, weeks in- Ireland and- a fortnight in London before settling down to 'work oh' the Clyde.
