Mr. C J. Reakes, chief Government veterinarian, was a passenger for Auckland by yesterday's Main Trunk express. He is to return to Wellington in time to attend the Frozen Heat Conference on Friday, and on Momlay next he will proceed to Rotor.ua to" investigate the cases of bush sickness in that district, for which a vote of .£2OO has been placed oil the Estimates. Mi , .' Reakes's investigations in Rotorua will possibly take a fortnight.
Mr.- W. B. Montgomery, secretary of Customs, is. at present .'visiting the various offices in the Dominiou. Mr. Nixon. Collector of Customs at Wellington, will he acting-secretary during >. Mr. Montgomery's absence.

Mr. peter Bowling left yesterday forenoon for Master'toii where ho delivered a public address last evening. Returning to Wellington to-day, Mr. Bowling, with Mrs. • Bowling and members of his family, will proceed by the Mapourika to the West Coast, where he is to remain until after Christmas. During his stay at; the West Coast Mr. Bowling will be actively engaged- in organisation work on behalf-; of the New Zealand .Federation of Labour. llr.VB.
