Stratford, December .1 Entries for Stratford's first Agricultural and Pastoral Show closed last night, and- total 1235. Cattle, horses; and sheep are particularly strong. A BANKRUPT'S DEVICE. .Auckland, December 1. Mr. Justico Cooper, sitting at.the Supreme Court to-day, sentenced- Vincent Philip John Ayhvard, charged with crimes under the Bnnkrnptcy Act, to sis months" imprisonment. At the hearing of tho enso it was shown that the prisoner, whilo an undischarged bankrupt, had assumed another name for the purpose of securing credit and had secured credit, therebywithout giving any- intimation that he was an undischarged bankrupt. The case had been adjourned to secure police; reports upon the prisoner's character. His Honour said that the report of tho probation officer was unfavourable. If prisoner had simply failed to disclose that he was. an undischarged bankrupt tho case might have been dealt with under the First Offenders' Act or met by n. fine, ! but he had deliberately and intentionally secured, credit by false-written statements purporting to come from another person. A LIGHT CRIMINAL CALENDAR. Nelson, December 1. The Supreme Court sessions opened here to-day before tho Chief Justice,- who congratulated the district on. the absence of serious crime. Wi Waaka, who pleaded guilty to a charge.of common assault, was admitted to probation. James Harris, for failing to keep, proper books and" obtaining, goods by .false representation, was. acquitted on-: the'first, count, an d on the second convicted and admitted to probation. John William Ferguson was found guilty of perjury,- with a strong recommendation fo mercy, and was similarly dealt with.
