IMPERIAL TRADE.
AGENT-GENERALS URGE A TARIFF By Telograph-Presa Association—Copyright. London, November 30. Sir J. W. Taverner, Victorian AgentGeneral, in a paper read beforo tho Australasian Chamber of Commerco on tho encouragement of British enterprise and industry, said Australians were not receiving from the Motherland the recognition and support they were entitled to in developing the resources of the Empire. Tho new Port of London rates, too, were calculated to hamper trade. The writer suggested that the subject should bo considered at the forthcoming Imperial Conference, and advocated tho Imperial Government's adoption of a maximum and minimum tariff, which would enable Australia' to conduct tariff bargainings as Austria had done in the case of meat. The Hon. T. A. Coghlan (Agent-Gen-eral for New South Wales) atid the Hon. J. M'Call (Tasmania) supported the proposal.
