"Dick" Arnst, champion sculler of the world, was entertained at a social function to-night by a, number of his friends, and was presented with a leather suit-case, with inscribed plate. Arnst leaves to-morrow for Sydney, where ho will go into training for the'big handicap to be rowed towards the end of February in which he will be a competitor. BOWLS. GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS AT PLAT. Bowls is a popular game with the Civil Service. No fewer than 56 members of the service were engaged in an all-day match on the Thorudon Club's green, when the redoubtable Post and Telegraph Department completely .routed the rest of the service.
