For the Flying Stakes, Equitas was alwavs favourite, but she got. a very bad run, "and was fortunate not to fall. From, a fair start, Full Rate hopped out, and led the whole way. At tlio half-way Irish Rifle was running second to him, but doing it under punishment. At the turn Tenterhook and True Shot ran up, and hero Equitas got a lucky run through on the rails, but her efforts earlier had taken too much out of her, and she stopped again. Mulga Bill was always prominent.
: A good useful field contested the Hack •Welter. The • Chokobore colt, True Knight, bred at the Manawatu Stud Farm, was made favourite, and, at the finish, he won easily.' Kilosteri and San Lass made the early running, but the latter gave. way at tho turn, and True Kuight took' her place. 110 easily disposed of Kilosteri, and won comfortably. Nothing but Birkdale was asked for in the St. Andrew's Handicap, and the Karanui colt, ably handled by Oliver, ran home comfortably, but his victory would not have been such an easy one had Sandstream been called on .earlier. The latter was last two furlongs from homo, and came round everything with a wonderful run. Birkdale was in command for tho first six furlongs, and .then Strathmoira took charge. However, when required, the colt easily ran to tho front, and won by a couple of lengths. • A good betting race saw The Native close a slightly better favourite than Maggie Paul in the Open Hurdles. "U'aikaraka made the running for a mile and n half, when tho favourite went io tile front and won easily. Mnßgio Paul was prominent over the last half-mile, but she- stopped to a walk in tho straight. Tyrannic broke down, and was pulled up, and Showman fell at tho back of tho course.
The Hack Hurdles resulted in one of the finest finishes ever seen in a hurdle race. Merry Lawn was made favourite. The Merriweo gelding carried on the early running, but screwed hadly at his fences, and lost several lengths at each jump. Down the back, Howler and Canadian ran up to him, and this kept him straight. At the half-mile post "Waterworks challenged, and led into the straight, but his big weight then hampered him. Inside the distance Canadian and Clarcmont challenged, and, in a good finish, the former won by a head. Claremont was.only a neck away, a length in front of Merry Lawn. Scratehings reduced the Feilding Stakes field to seven runners, of whom Gipsy Belle was made favourite. After a slight delay the tapes flow up.- and Formby, with Provocation, led from Gipsy Belle. Provocation cam© away at the turn, and won comfortably. Gipsy Belle was a head in front of Polymorphous, who was slow to find his feet, but finished well. .Sharpshooter was made a pronounced favourite in the Open Welter, but he ran badly, and seemed to be hampered the whole way by his big weight. Lethean mndo the running to the turn, where First Mnto went to tho front, and won comfortably by a length. Tho favourite was fourth. The .Fitzroy Hack Plying event was another good race, and concluded a highly successful day's sport. Bunkum led off from the light-weight Avaunt, with Vibration and Gladiolo handy, and Merry Frank just clear of tho others. The last-named came on full of running in the straight, and, catching Vibration's rider napping, he won by a head. Bun-
fcuin was third. Ngatiruanui ran very wildly, arid was nearly oif the course sev» •':... eral times. ."■'; ACCEPTANCES FOR SECOND DAY, .. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.)
