Cricket at Wellington College The cricket match that was played yesterday afternoon on tho Wellington College grounds between elevens representing Government House and. tho Wellington College was interesting to watch from many points of view. The College boys, though very active and keen to win, were not quite equal to the players against whom they had to pit their- skill, however, and the game resulted in a win for tho Government House eleven. It was a most delightful day, bright and sunny, with a cool breeze blowing, and the grounds looked very fresh and green after tho recent rain. The mon with the cameras were exceedingly active snapshotting the onlookers, and tho players, and so keen was ono to photograph his Excellency while in tae act of striking he allowed his kconncss to outrun his judgment, and lead him difficulties. There were, of course, a number of College boys present, who watched tho course of events with the greatest intensity,, and were most anxious as to the result of the game. A iuarquee had been orccted upon tho grounds, in which their Excellencies entertained a number of guests at afternoon ten. Her Excellency, Lady Islington, was accompanied by Miss Staplclon-Cotton and the Honourable Joan Dickson-Poyndcr. Among those present were Dr. and Mrs. Collins, Dr. and Mrs. Findlay, Mr. and Mrs. A. Duncan, Mr. and Mrs. H, Crawford, Mr. and Mrs. W. F. Ward, Dr. and Mrs. Elliott, Mrs. Tweed, Mr. and Mrs. Firth, Mrs. Algar Williams, Mrs. James Burnett, Dr. and Mrs. Young, Miss Brandon, Miss Collins, Miss Pearce, Mrs. and Miss Gore, Mies E. Williams, Miss Tweed, and tho college masters and their wives. District Nursing Guild. The committee of the District Nursing Guild of St. John met yesterday afternoon, when the following members were present: Mrs. S. A. Rhodes. Ladv of the Order of St. John, Mrs. J. V. Luke, Mrs. A. A. Emily Richmond in tho Mongolia, are staying for at least three months in New Zealand, and are the guests of Miss Richmon (Hobson Street). Mr. and Mrs. F. Carey (Masteiton) are visitors to Wellington. Mrs. W. Bidwill is in town, Mrs. George Humo (Lower Valley) has been spending a few days in Wellington. Mrs. Leslie Hill is making a several weeks' holiday in' Wanganui with her people. . ■ Mr. and Mrs. F. Dillon (Blenheim) are in Wellington, and are staying with Mrs. George. Fell. Mr. and Mrs. G. B. Dnll have issued invitations for a farewell tea to ho given for .their daughter, Miss Vera Dall, on Tuesday, December 6, at tho Hotel Windsor. Miss Dall. leaves at the end of the year for England. Miss Estelle Beere is a visitor to Auckland. . - • Tlur engagement is announced of Miss Eva Standidge, fifth danghter of Mr. J. C. Standidge, to Mr. George Davidson, of this city, son of tho late Mr. John Davidson, Secretary of Lands, Sydney, New South Wales. Miss Kathleen who was successful m winning .several -prizes in tho recent Auckland elocutionary competition is a pupil of Mrs. Martiu Williams. The Wellington branch of the New Zealand Trained Nurses' Association is holding its'annunl gathering on Wednesday, November 36, in the Concert Chamber of the Town Hall. This is quite a departure from the usual course of its proceedings as the gathering has hitherto always taken the form of a dinner.
