A foiir't«en-year-old boy named Herbert Holmes was picked up this morning in Tailored Street' in an unconscious condition. He had.been sent to bring a horse from a pnddock some distance away, and it is supposed that ho attempted to ride tho animal back, and was thrown off. He sustained n compound fracturo of the skull, and is in a critical condition. TRAMPLED ON BY A COW. (By : ToleKrani.-l'ress Association.! Now Plymouth, November 28. On Saturday, .at Stratford, the 'little three-year-old . danjhter .of Mr. ■Perrett, : a farmer, was knocked down and trampled on ; by a-cow on her father's farm. At the time no serious injury was apparent, but the child.died to-day. " ■"■• DIED UNDER' AN ANAESTHETIC.. An inmate of. the Wellington Hospital, Mrs. Louisa Emma. Adams,, aged 'IS, died under an. anaesthetic at noon yesterday, and the' circumstances surrounding . her death, formed tho subject of an .inquest held by the CoToner (Dr. M'Arthur) yesterday afternoon.. Sergeant Mathieson represented the police. ■' Henry Dixon Adam's, husband of do-, ceased, stated that his wife had been in good health until the end of September, when sho developed appendicitis. She entered the hospital on October. 18 to bo treated for tho complaint. Witness did not.kiiow that she suffered from heart trouble until after tho operation, when i she informed him'.. Dr. Young stated that ho had attended deceased at the hospital. Sho had suffered from an, abscess following appendicitis. An operation was to bo performed yesterday morning, and the anaesthetic was administered by Dr. -Simpson, under the supervision of Dr. Hnrdwicke Smith. A few minutes afterwards Dr.' Simpson drew attention 1 to deceased's colour, and the anaesthetic was -stopped. The patient then ceaEed breathing. Artificial respiration was resorted to without success.. ■ *. ■ Dr. Hnrdwicke Smith, Medical Superintendent of Wellington Hospital, also gave evidence, and stated, inter alia, that death was due to heart failure while under an anaesthetic. ■ A verdict was 'returned in accordance with the medical testimony. DEATH PROM SHOCK. _ Guy Comptori, the three-year-old son of Mr. Thos, Compton, of 2a Khodes Street, who was severely ■scalded in a bath on Sunday evening, died at the Wellington Hospital yesterday morning. The City Coroner (Dr. A. M'Arthnr) held an in- : quest at noon yesterday. Medical evidence showed that death resulted from shock, following scalding, and a .verdict was returned accordingly. FALL OFF AN EXPRESS. James Craig, a. single, man, 33 years ?V5 e ' residing at Miramar, was admitted to tho hospital last night suffering Irom a badly bruised'leg. Craig is a carrier, and while driving home he fell off his express and the wheel passed over his leg. . ' . , '
