(Prom Our Special Correspondent.! HERETAUNGA BOATING CLUB. .Tho first of the- season's races under the auspices .'of the Horetaunga Boating Club was held on Saturday afternoon, when three.classes.were got away. Tho motor launch event was rather disappointing, especially as this.raco was the inauguration of launch races in connection with the club. Messrs. Ryan Bros.' Sunbeam was 'the only one that ;crossed the, lino. The,other .boats could not start - owing to' their ' owners and crews being prevented by work from attending, but there is a bright prospect for this class in future: The 18-foot class was represented by Mr. Jenkins's Ruby, Mr. Kcir's Tom Wilford, Mr. Hartloy's Spray, Messrs. King and Rowo'r Bronzewing, Mr. W. Wilson's Flying Scud, arid Mr. 11. K. Griffith's Huia. The race was won by Ruby, the Tom Wilford being lmin. 28sec. behind her,. and tho Spray third, 11 minute's away. Tha 14-footers were sent away to tho Mark Foy. The following were the placed boats: —Mr. J. ColquhOun's Gil Bias, 1; Messrs. Taylor and Poin-t-on's Wai-iti, 2; and Mr. W. Taylor's Hinau, 3. The Runa was unable to start owing to her hew suit of sails not being ready, she having had tho misfortune to blow her sails to ribbons during last Sunday week's "blow." Mr. M'Dougall's new boat in this class was not ready. Arrangements for the gala day on New Year's Day are now well in hand, and from' present indications tho gala should be on a larger scale than that of last year;- The committee will meet on Thursday, December 1, in the. Mayor's' room, Pet-one, when the full programme will be- gone into. ■. ' ' ' PETONE ROWING CLUB. The > President's Fours (Mr. A. G. Drummond (stroke), L. Drummond, W. Sy- ! roons, and A. Packard. They defeated P. Arrowsmith, A. Hume, J. Ashton, and F. Whitley by a length.
