VICE-REGAL CRICKET.

TWO VICTORIES. 1 LORD ISLINGTON AS A BATSMAN. 1 Educated at Harrow and Eton, his Excellency Lord Islington is naturally a 1 cricketer, and a match played here re- | cehtly shows that he has- by no means lost form. On Friday an eleven cap- , tained by his Excellency met a team from • H.M.S. Encounter and defeated them, i His Excellency was top-scorer with GO, i obtained mostly by effective strokes all t round the wicliet, while Captain Hamil- f ton also put -together 52 (not out) in i masterly and versatile fashion. The summer gamo has nover been played under inoro agreeable weather conditions than at the Wellington College ground yesterday afternoon, when a team captained by his Excellency' defeated the College senior eleven. Many interested spectators viewed tho match, amongst them Lady Islington, tho Hon. Joan Dickson-roj-nder, and Mr. and Mrs. J. P. Firth. The Collego boys were faced by a stiff proposition, for the / team ' arrayed against, them was one, of experienced players, and a number of its members are still. active players in Wellington senior cricket. Easily tho best batsman in the Governor's team was Captain Hamilton, who hold his place at the wickets during the greater part of the innings, and gave a finished display. Lord Islington went in sixth and played several deliveries in excellent style, but on this occasion came early to grief. His wicket fell to Beard. The fielding of the Collego team was good. In this department they were assisted by Saunders, but.the coach neither bowled nor went to the wickets. The Collego batsmen found the bowling of his Excellencj'.'s eleven . too much for them, and were quickly dismissed for a total of 88 runs. The only iriiportant score was .that of Attnore, who made 33, not out. Collego followed on, but subsequent play , had no bearing on the result. His Excellency's Eleven. C. A. Richardson, b.
