CLEARER WATER.
INTHORNDON SWIMMING' BATH. The Thorndon Swimming Bath, which" seemed to. have fallen on such, evil days," is now in much better conditid'n than it was a: few weeks ago. It has> been, at times, decidedly uninviting. At one. period a nor' : west wind was wont to bring along any quantity of muddy water from ' tho railway reclamation at the Kaiwarra end of tho Thorndon Esplanade, and at another time quantities of fine silt, which' the Harbour Board's dredge had picked up from the Falcon Shoals and deposited at tho Pipitea Point reclamation, drifted in and niado the water opaque and milky-looking. After a high tide the white deposit lay inches deep on the steps, and a silting up had begun all over the bottom of the bath. Pollution from both these sources has now, temporarily or. permanently, almost ceased. , The railway reclamation being nearly finished, not much of the newly-deposited spoil is exposed to the washing of the waves, and at theiotherend of the esplanade, the Whaka'rire is now. depositing its loads much further away. It is understood that the dredgo will shortly bo laid up for overhaul, and it is therefore reasonable to expect. that tho Thorndon Bath will be in quite a' satisfactory condition throughout thoholiday season. __'
