» - Mr. Kerr Clark, Private Secretary to his Excellency the Governor, who . has been paying a brief visit to his relatives in Australia, is duo back from Sydney by the Marama to-day. Mr. Frank Glasgow, who was, a member of the "All Black" football team which visited England, has been transferred from the Invercargill to tho Wellington branch of the Bank of New Zealand. Tho Rev. Prebendary H. V. Stuart, one of the band-.of Anglican missioners, leaves for the Old Country on Friday next. Prebendary Stuart conducted a most successful mission in St. Thomas's Church, Wellington South, at the beginning of last month, and lie is to hold a special mission service before his departure in' St. Thomas's Church tomorrow (Thursday) evening, at a quarter to eight o'clock. As Mr. G. H. Dixon is leaving Wellington to tako up his residence in Auckland early.next month,, an acting-secretary of the Northern Bowling Association < will have to be appointed at next Friday's meeting of that body. It is "understood that Mr. Dixon will hold office until after the championship tournament, to be held at Auckland in January, but in the meantimo the secretarial work of the association will have to bo attended to in Wellington.
The Bishop of Melanesia, Dx. Wilson, Mrs. Wilson and four children, were passengers to Auckland by the Sonthern Cross from Norfolk Island on Sunday last.
Captain Colomb, of H.M.S; Encounter, and Mts. Colomb ore at present on a visit to Nelson. They will-return to Wellington on Thursday. .
Dr. Thorpe was a passenger by the Pateena from Nelson and Picton to Wellington last evening.
Mr. Richard Short has decided to contest the Hutt seat at next year's election. At the last election Sir. T. M. Wilford polled 3707 against Mr. Short's 2219.
Tho death is announced of Mr. James Stevens, formerly; a resident of - Petone, ljut who has been living in Wellington for some time past. The deceased, who was eighty-four years of age, was born in Cornwall, and- arrived here in 1874. He was associated with, some big engineering works in England and Cuba before coming to New Zealand. Mr. Stevens leaves a widow and a family of nineMessrs. J. Stevens (Melbourne), M. Stevens (Palmerston),. Mrs. P. H. Lynch (Kumeroa), Mrs. D. Donald (Masterton), ■ Mrs. Gower (Pendarvis), Mts. Curtis (Petone), Mrs. Steadman (Melbourne), Mrs. Townsliend (Ivarori) and Mrs. RickaTds (England).
Mr. W. P. Fitzgerald, of Roseneath, 1 who has been on a holiday visit to Great Britain, returns ■by - the Marama to-day. He has been' absent about eight months, during which time lie has travelled much in company with his cousins, Dr. Chute and Major Chute. A welcome is to be tendered to him to-night by his many Roseneath friends.
Among the' passengers to arrive by the Maori from the south this morning are the Hons. G.. J. Smith, ;H. P. Wighim, and J. Barr, M.L.C.'s..
' Mr. A. Hamilton, Curator to the Dominion Museum, has made arrangements to have the juvenile members of the Navy League (who are arriving to-day from Palmerston North and elsewhere to see the flagship) shown' over the museum. Tho courtesy is'one which is sure to be appreciated by the visitors. r •
