MR. WILLIAM HENRY'S VISITS.
At the Hotel Windsor.last night. Jlr. Wm. Henry, representative of the Koyal Life Saving Society, was entertained at a smoke concert by the members of the Wellington branch of tlio Royal Life Saving Society. Jlr. 6. Hill presided, and there was a large number of members present. Mr. Henry, in responding to the toast of his health, gave an interesting account of the gro'wth of tho society from 1891 until the present day. In 1891 some 160 members passed the examination, the following year the number was 17G, and gradually the society. spread from place to place until last year over 11,000 members were examined. What he had seen in Australia and New Zealand had been very gratifying, for ho had not reckoned on seeing tho branches so firmly established nor the members so interested. He expressed the hope that tho handsome challenge cup presented to the society by the King would one day come to New Zealand for a term.. A number of toasts were- honoured, and items ■to a pleasant / programme were contributed by Messrs: Gibbcs, Tinriey, . Hall, Gondie, Major, Jacobs, and Hanna. At the Tβ Aro Baths last evening at 5.30 tho examination. for tho society's medallion was held, tho following being tho successful candidates:—P. Neal, C. T. Arthur, B. Russell, B. C. Freyberg, W. Wilson, J. Wilson, and H. Ronntreo. At tho smoke concert held at the Hotel Windsor, Mr. Henry congratulated the candidates on their proficiency, and also the instructors, Messrs. G. Neal and W. Wilson, and Mr. J. Collier. A freo display of life-saving and of: fancy and scientific swimming will :be given at the Te. Aro Baths to-morrow afternoon by Mr. Henry, . ■ ■• .- ■
