THE NEWTOWN "ZOO."
NO SUPERINTENDENT MEANTIME. Dealing with the administration of the Newtown "Zoo," the Reserves Committee reported to tho City Council last evening thai> it had considered tho suggestions submitted by Councillor Shirtclilfe as to the future policy to be pursued in regard to that institution, and was of opinion that the council should sot up a special comuiitteo at tho end of the present financial year, to control tho "Zoo.'-' Tho committee further recommended tnat gentlemen outsido the council, interested, in tho development of the "zoo," should be invited to act in cooperation with the Reserves Committee, and that Mr. Le Souef, of Sydney,' shoudl bo invited to come to Wellington at the beginning of. tho next financial year for the purpose of reporting on. the "zoo." Another recommendation of tho committee was that Mr. Langridgo should bo retained meantime as keeper in charge and that applicants for the position of superintendent should bo , informed accordingly. Tho report was adopted without discussion.
