RAILWAY REVENUE.
LATEST RETURNS. Last' night's Gazette gives the .figures relating to, railways revenue and; expenditure for tho four weeks ended October 15. The total revenue was ,£244,444, and the total expenditure ,£167,925, leaving a net return of ,£75,519. Of this net return the lines in this island (1150 miles) yielded ,£38,256, and. tho lines in the. South Island (15SS miles) For. tho first 28 weeks of the current financial,. year the net revenue amounted to .£553,-" 233, as compared with .£443,981 for the corresponding, period last, year. Of the latter sum the North Island lines yielded ,£195,146, and the South Island lines £248,835. Of the £553,233 earned this year, the North Island lines yielded £276,736, and the South Island lines ,£276,497. There was thus an increase of £81,590 from the North Island lines, ' and an increase of only £27,602 from the , southern lines. The net return per mile ' of line is, for the 28 weeks, £240 12s. 9d, in the case of this island, and-£174.2j ■ 3d. in the case of the South Island.'
