It is announced that the Papanui, which was badly damaged through striking the rocks off Tasmania, and was subsequently sold by the New Zealand Shipping Company, has bean repaired, and arrangements have been made for her to proceed to Japan. MOKE TILES FEOM MARSEILLES. Word has been received stating tliattho Italian barque Erminia, 1409 tons register, has been chartered by Messrs. Wundcrlich. Ltd., to load.terra cotta roofing tiles at Marseilles for Dimedin and Lyttelton. Also the Italian ship Vola is to carry a similar cargo to Melbourne. Both vessels will sail this month. EAKANOA'S LONG TEIP. The Union Company's cargo steamer Ea.kh.noo. mado an exceptionally long trip up from Lyttelton to Wellington, which probably constitutes a record for the journey, at least as far as sho is concerned. Leaving. the southern port at 4.5 p.m. i on Saturday the vessel did not arrive, in the stream at Wellington until 0.30 a.m. yesterday, 32 hours 25 niinntcs later. The Rakanoa, being in light trim, made very bad weather of the heavy N.W. gale that was blowing outside, tho steamer being flung about like a cork. She berthed at the wharf shortly after 5 a.m. yesterday,' and is to sail for Westport and Greymouth at noon to-day. VERMONT FROM NEW YOEK. At 6.40 a.m. yesterday the' Vacuum Oil Company's chartered steamer Vermont arrived at Wellington from New York, via Durban and Auckland, and berthed at the ..King's Wharf. Leaving tho American port on August 21, the. vessel experienced very fine weather to St. Vincent, where, she took'in. bunker coal. Head winds and seas were encountered between the latter port and Durban, the South African port being" reached on September 29. On the voyage- across the Southern Ocean very heavy weather, was met with, gales coming away from tho west and south-west, with very high seas, tho result being that decks were almost continually awash. , Auckland was reached on November 2, and after completing discharge of tho northern portion of her cargo tho Vermont left for Wellington at 5 p.m. on Friday, arriving as Captain M.
