A NOTED HEREFORD BREEDER.
- MR. JOHN PEICE DEAD. Mr. John Price, the noted English Hereford breeder, is dead. • When Mr. Price relinquished farming at the Court House, Pembridge, in 1901, his herd was sold, eighteen bulls averaging ,£9l os. 3d., sixty-nine cows and heifers .£72 19s. 3d., thirty hvo-year-oid heifers ,£GI Is., and twenty-six yearlings £31 Bs. Bd. Mr. Price was a most distinguished breeder, and was very successful in the showyards, winning at Birmingham the Elkmgten Challenge Cup outright in 1882 with a Hereford steer of his own breeding, also special prize of .£3O. He also won the Presidents Cup at the Bath and West Show at Brighton in ISBS lor the best family, group out of twenty-two entries representing all breeds. He was the son of a noted breeder, Mr. Edward Price, and on his return from Australia endeavoured to collect for his herd at Court House as much of the old blood as possible. His selection of the famous bull Horace 3877 was a great event in the ■ history of the Hereford breed, this sire impressing upon his offspring his rare wealth of flesh and magnificent quality. Other noted bulls were Kegulus, Hotspur, and The Court House herd made a great impression on the breed, and was a testimony to Mr. Price's skill god eminence as a breeder, >
