BOXING.
EVENTS AT GISBORNE. WENAND LOSES ON A FOUL. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) Clsborne, November 4. The Gisborno amateur boxing championships were dccided last night, and to-night in His Majesty's Theatre. A big audience was present on both occasions, and'tho results wero as follow:— Bantams, N. Barnard; featherweights, T. J. Parker; light-weights, W. Rogers; woltcr-woights, Jj\ Seymour; middle-weights, J. W. Nicholas; heavyweights, B. Lowo. Great interest attached to the professional contest for £50, between W. Wenand and L. Robinson, local champion light-weight. Mr. W. O'Connor was referee, while, with Wenand, as his sccond, was lludd, the heavy-weight, and with Robinson was W. Crawford. Wenand opened briskly and, in' tho earlier rounds, piled up points, but Robinson rallied, and, from the fifth round onwards, scored heavily. Wenand was cautioned for holding, but continued to do so, amidst the disapproval of the ringsiders. In the twelfth round Wenand was disqualified for a palpable foul, in attempting to throw Robinson, who therefore- obtained a well-earned verdict. It was a popular 1 decision.
