Mr. W, E. Caldow, of Wellington, who has lxen visiting; England on business and pleasure, left London on Sunday for Marseilles, where ho joins the Orsova today (September 22). Mr. Caldow arrived in England on May 14, and after 6opio weeks in London visited Birmingham, Wolverhampton, and Sheffield, and spejtf August in touring Scotland and tho En|p lish lake country. Mr. Laurie Abrahams, of Auckland, who arrived here recently by the Ruapehu, intends remaining until November 2*i, when ho will leare on his return to Auckland by the Turakina. 1 During his visit to London Mr. Abrahams is staying with his parents.

Sir. Stanley Bowmar, formerly of this New Zealand Mines, Wellington, wlio came to .London eighteen months ago to study ami gain wider experience, is subediting a new home monthly. Mr. Bowmar has just returned from a holiday-ia Paris.

Mrs. T. M'Carthy and Miss M'Carthy, of Napier, are at present on a visit to London, staving at Heme Hill. Since their arrival, in England last April by the lonic they have travelled widely, visiting scenes of historic interest and charm from Rome to Innisfallen. and from Egypt to Aberdeen. , Mrs. E. M. Kilgour, of Auckland and Wellington, left London last week for Ober-Ammergau to see the Passion Play. She will visit Germany, Italy, Switzerland, Belgium, and France, returning to London from Paris. Since her arrival here from New Zealand Mrs. Kilgour has visited many . parts of the United Kingdom. ... Mrs. Percy Dufaur, of Auckland, is visiting England, chiefly in pursuit of health. Accompanied by Miss Dufaur, she arrived on August 29 by. the Suevic from South Africa, where she had spent some weeks, mostly in Cape Town. She proposes visiting Paris this month, going afterwards to pay some visits to relatives in the Midlands, and thence goes to Sootland for about a month before returning it London for tho winter. ■ Mr. Thomas Allen of Auckland,, is in London again, and has been visiting during the past few weeks many places of. interest, including Oxford, Cambridge, and St. Albans. He has also been visiting friends in Cheshire and in Staffordshire, near Lichfield. He has booked his passage to Now Zealand by the Orient-R.M.S. Orvieto, and leaves London this week for Paris. He will spend a fortnight in Switzerland, and'two'or three weeks in Italy, joining the Orvieto at Naples <jn November 5. . He • hopes to arrive m Auckland some time before. Christmas. ••The Hon.. W; Pember Reeves, tho:first High Commissioner for New Zealand, and now head of the London School of Economics, is chairman of the executive committee of the Universal Races Congress, w;hich is to be held in London towards the end of next July. The object of the congress is to discuss the general relations subsisting, between the peoples of the East and the West, with a view to oncouragin" a ' fuller understanding, friendlier feelings, and a hearty co-opera-tion. Hartley, the clever Dunedin artist, has been awarded a teacher-artist certificate by the Royal Drawing Society. This society was founded by Mr. T. R. Ablett some ten years ago for the encouragement of drawing, painting, and modelling as a means of general education, and for preserving and developing in children the spontaneous pictorial memory. So successful have its methods been, that already its certificated teachers are to be found in many of the modern schools and colleges in England. Miss .Hartley is making unusually good progress at the Parisian studio. Most of her vacation she has- spent in sketching excursions in. the provinces. She is now at Aylesbury, Bucks.
