The matches in the other grades, judging by past performances, will, in the majority of cases, iurnish closo finishes. At Day's Bay To-day, Men's Matches.—Wellington Ist. v. Victoria College, on courts 11 ontl 12. Last Saturday's Play. The inter-club matches were continued last Saturday in perfect weather, and some good matches were witnessed. Thero were many close finishes, particularly in the lower grades. Brougham Hill's A team defeated the Hutt representatives by a set, rubbers being even. In singles and doubles honours were even, nawkins disposed of Laishlcy in two sets. Cornell put up another fine performance in deteating H. V. Howe. Howo makes a big mistake in taking up a position on the service, court line, against players who are sure over-head. . Few players could beat Cornell from such 'a position. Muritai won two sets in its match against Thorndon, b.v Wright and Jones defeating Carter and Putnam in the second double. In the Victoria College v. Wellington 2nd. match the former team had an easier victory than was anticipated. Ellcr and Jeffery, for the losers, won their double against Wilson: and Beere, but in their singles against the same players they were unablo to secure a set. In the ladies' • matches in the A grade, Thorndon and Brougham Hill scored easy wins against Victoria Collego and Wellington 2nd. respectively. Miss Tennaiit, of the College team, played a good single, and defeated Miss Turton in two sets. Miss Webb, of Wellington, had an easy win, against Mrs. Howo (Brougham Hill). Miss "Webb is showing much improvement 'on her last season's play. B Grade Games. In tho men's B grade, Petono put up a good performance in dofeating tho Collego Ist. team by 5 rubbers to 1. Parker scored for tho Collegians by .defeating Austin in a three-set .'single.

Brougham Hill's Ist. team defeated its 2nd.''.team, ocmfortably. » Lower Hutt had .1 weak team in against the College second, which had been strengthened, and only won one rubber, scored by Kirk against Duncan.' In tho ladies' B grade the Petono team just won .by two games. Brougham Hill second won by default from the same club's first team. Canterbury Not Satisfied Yet.The Canterbury Association is still on tho warpath, being dissatisfied with the decisions arrived at at the annual mating of the New Zealand Council. • T'jis association is ve'-y much in tho minority at present, and it doesn't like tho position. It wants to havo a bigger'say in the management of New Zealand lawn tennis, and, like tho boj who 'ranted soap, "it won't 00 happy until it gets it. 1 Perhaps the Canterbury Association's threat to sqcedo may impress some of the delegates with the seriousness of the position, but it certainly does not put this association in any better light from a sportsman's point of view. If Canterbury, Otago, and Auckland cannot accept the ruling of tho seven other associations, representing the majority of players in tho Dominion, then they must not expect much sympathy from the players and public. The writer ventures to think that if the management of the noxt Davis Cup ninth were placed in 'ho Canterbury Association's hands, then the present differences of opinion would end. N.Z. Association's Secretary. Hr. A. J. Petheriek has been appointed secretary of the New Zealand Association, ilr. Petheriek has been associated with yachting for a number of yenrs, and hhs shown his ability as an organiser and manager by his management of the recent Flower Pageant. He has just taken 011 tennis, and will, 110 doubt, become fully conversant with tho little "ins and outs" of tho game before long. Other.ltems. Mavrogordato, who was one of the chosen players to represent England in tho Davis Cup match in New Zealand this year, hud it. been played, was beaten in the All-coiners' Singles at Chichester by I.arscn, the .Danish champion. Larsen is a very steady and accurate player, with a neat and effective back hand, but his shots arc, for the most part, too defensive. Ritchie beat Larsen in the final G—o, G—l, G—2, so that he did not appear to have very liinch difficulty in accomplishing it. Of courso, these results are not always a true guide, but they seem to placii Jlnvrogordato much below Ritchie, and it gives tho Australasian Council further good reason for withdrawing the •itll) guarantee to the English Association for the visit of a team in which the above player was one of its stars. 111 tho final of the Covered Courts' Championship of England A. F. Wilding beat A. H. Lowe, G—2, G—l, and 6—3.
