V v >''.' ' s JI | j'# ; rj? vi;/ t ; At a first glance tlie above plaotograpli suggests an immense exhibition- of roots. Instead of this it represents one year's •' | 5 selection of Sutton's Prizewinner Mangel for the protection of Pedigree Stock Seed. ■ - | | ,' The specimen roots, having been individually selected by experts, are laid out for final examination by one of the partners I | before they are stored for the winter. Early in the .following-spring the clamps are. opened, and, after a further examination, 3 ;■ . the roots, are planted for seed. This Pedigree Stock Seed cannot be used for the production of seed crops until it has been care-, § I fully tested in comparison with the selections of previous years, and at least five years must elapse from the selection of.roots in I | any autumn before seed can be' distributed to our Customers. ' ' ' | | Other varieties of Mangel, as also of Swedes and Turnips—both yellow and white-fleshed—are subjected to the same close | ? scrutiny, with the object of perpetuating the special qualities and characteristics of each variety. | | From this brief explanation it will ba obvious that the'task of annually 'selecting • stock roots is both laborious and costly, § ? but the increasing popularity of our pedigree strains proves that our; Customers appreciate the care bestowed by us; and the $ \ extraordinary successes in root competitions year by year afford conclusive evidence of the value of the work accomplishtd. ( S. .That no other Seed House will incur the labour and expense of thus selecting roots bearing our name will be readily under-' I \ stood, but we take this opportunity of repeating that the seeds offered as "Sutton's/ 1 either in lists or 011 the market, have not | I been raised or sold by us. 1 |
