ißy Teleeraph.—Special Correspondent.) Wanganul, Novemher 2. Customs duties collected at the port of Wanganui for October totaUed £6111 145., as against £5680 for the same month last year. Excise duty amounted to £319 165., as against £295 11s. for October last vear.
Vital statistics for the past month wero as follow:—Births, 33 (58 last 'year); deaths, 16 (15); marriages, 1L(1O).
The by-election for the Wanganui East Borough Council, held yesterday, was largely fought out on the now bridge and tramway proposals. Mr. li. Christie, who favoured both, was the successful candidate, polling . 232 votes as against IC9 polled by Mr. W. M. Luxford.
