EPISODES IN SOUTH AFRICAN HISTORY.
MAGNIFICENT SPECTACLE By Telegraph—Press Aseociation-Oopyrisht (Rec. October 29, 5.5 p.m.) Capo Town, October 29. A Reuter cablegram states that _tlio National Pageant oponed in glorious weather after having been, eagerly anticipated for months. It took place on the shores of Tablo Bay.- 'The site had been especially prepared, and the stands wore crowded with many thousand spectators.
There were over 5000 voluntary performers from all parts of the country, including a number of ■ b'ushmen and. Basutos. The pageant was. divided' into, two sections, .there being eight-episodes today and nine on Monday. To-day's episodes deal with the early Dutch and Portuguese days' in South Africa down to the Dutch capitulation to tlie British in 1800. . The function was' most successful. The performers wore attired- in costumes of the different period", and countries represented) producing wonderful colour effects. The pageant is a triumph of organisation.
