A Reuter cablegram states that _tlio National Pageant oponed in glorious weather after having been, eagerly anticipated for months. It took place on the shores of Tablo Bay.- 'The site had been especially prepared, and the stands wore crowded with many thousand spectators.

To-day's episodes deal with the early Dutch and Portuguese days' in South Africa down to the Dutch capitulation to tlie British in 1800. . The function was' most successful. The performers wore attired- in costumes of the different period", and countries represented) producing wonderful colour effects. The pageant is a triumph of organisation.
